Kroger Jobs 2026: Store Roles, Average Pay and How to Apply

October 18, 2026

Kroger jobs cover far more than stores with the Kroger name over the door. In 2026 the Cincinnati-based grocer runs supermarkets under banners such as Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Harris Teeter, Fry’s, Smith’s, Dillons, QFC, Mariano’s and Pick ‘n Save, and all of them hire through one official careers site.

As of January 31, 2026, Kroger employed more than 403,000 full- and part-time workers and operated 2,697 supermarkets in 35 states and the District of Columbia. Of those stores, 2,250 had pharmacies and 1,731 had fuel centers. Openings therefore range from cashier and deli clerk to pharmacy technician, delivery driver and fuel center roles.

Kroger lists openings for every banner on its official careers website, where you can search by keyword, city or ZIP code. Use the button below to see Kroger jobs near you and apply on the company’s site.

Why work at Kroger

Training is a large line item. Kroger says it spent about $183 million on associate training in 2025, covering onboarding, leadership development and upskilling programs across the company.

Its tuition reimbursement offers up to $3,500 a year, and up to $21,000 over the course of employment, for certifications and degrees. About 6,100 associates used it in 2025, and 92% of them were paid hourly, according to Kroger’s annual report.

Most common Kroger jobs

On October 18, 2026, Kroger’s careers site listed about 11,300 openings, and the vast majority were in store operations. The titles below were the most frequent that day, and the counts change daily.

Job title Openings listed on October 18, 2026 Typical work
Team Member 5,818 General store roles in grocery, fresh and front end departments
Cashier 1,036 Checkout and customer service
Courtesy Clerk 936 Bagging, carts and helping shoppers
Pharmacy Technician 795 Supporting pharmacists and serving patients
Pharmacist 438 Dispensing and patient care
Assistant Department Leader 407 Helping run a store department

What Kroger looks for in applicants

Each posting lists its own requirements, such as minimum age, availability or certifications. For store roles, be ready to list the days and hours you can work, because schedules are built around store needs.

Pharmacy, supply chain and manufacturing jobs list extra qualifications in the posting. Driver roles, such as the logistics delivery driver openings posted in Aurora, Colorado, list their license requirements in the posting.

How to apply for Kroger jobs step by step

  1. Open Kroger’s careers site and search by keyword, city or ZIP code.
  2. Filter by category, such as store operations, supply chain or manufacturing.
  3. Read the posting carefully, including the banner, store address and schedule.
  4. Create a candidate profile and submit your application.
  5. Answer any screening questions attached to the job.
  6. Watch your email and phone for next steps from the store or hiring team.

You can apply to several nearby stores at the same time. Because every banner shares the same site, a Ralphs, Fry’s or King Soopers opening is still a Kroger job.

Kroger hiring process

The exact steps differ by banner and role, and each posting explains what to expect. The general path for store hires looks like this.

Stage What it involves
Online application Profile, work history, availability and screening questions
Review The store or hiring team checks availability and fit
Interview Arranged by the store or hiring team if you are selected
Offer Pay, schedule and start date for the specific store
Onboarding Company training programs and on-the-job learning

Kroger benefits and labor agreements

Kroger’s annual report highlights tuition reimbursement, training, and health and wellness benefits. More than two-thirds of associates are covered by collective bargaining agreements with local unions, roughly 350 contracts in all, and wages, health care and pensions are included in those agreements.

In practice, benefits and pay steps can differ between a King Soopers in Colorado and a Ralphs in Southern California. Ask which plan applies to your store during the hiring process.

Kroger pay: what the company reports

Kroger reports that wage increases in 2025 brought its average hourly rate to more than $20, and to more than $26 with comprehensive benefits included. The company says that rate is up 43% over the last eight years, and it expects further associate investment in 2026.

Starting pay depends on the banner, the local agreement, the role and your experience. The offer for a specific job sets out the rate before you accept.

Where Kroger has the most openings

Store openings follow Kroger’s store network, so they are spread unevenly across the country. These were the states with the most listings on October 18, 2026.

  • Colorado: 1,094 openings, mainly King Soopers and City Market
  • Ohio: 1,057 openings, including Kroger’s home market around Cincinnati
  • Indiana: 870 openings
  • Wisconsin: 851 openings, mainly Pick ‘n Save and Metro Market
  • Texas: 850 openings
  • Arizona: 656 openings, mainly Fry’s

Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee followed with roughly 490 to 560 openings each. Listings also appeared that day in Nevada, Idaho, Utah and Washington.

Fred Meyer and QFC Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska
King Soopers and City Market Colorado and nearby mountain states
Fry’s Arizona
Smith’s Utah, Nevada and nearby states
Harris Teeter North Carolina, Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic

Resume and interview tips for Kroger applicants

Mention any experience with food handling, customer service or cash, even from school, volunteer work or a family business. For pharmacy technician roles, have your certification or training details ready.

In the interview, be ready for questions such as how you would help a customer find an item or keep a long line moving. Give a short example from a past job and show that you know the store’s departments. If you have worked at any Kroger banner before, say so, since they all belong to the same company.

Common mistakes when applying to Kroger

Applying to a single store limits your options, since each location hires on its own schedule. A ZIP code search shows every banner near you, not just stores named Kroger.

Another mistake is ignoring the banner name entirely. If you only search for Kroger, you may miss a Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter or Smith’s opening that is closer to home.

How to spot fake Kroger job offers

Kroger posts jobs for every banner on its official careers site at krogerfamilycareers.com. Be careful with offers sent by text or social media that skip both the application and the interview.

Never pay to apply or to start a job, and do not share bank details until you have a real offer through official channels. If a listing looks odd, search for the same job on the official site before you reply.
