Why people choose to work at Walmart

The main draw is the number and variety of openings. Grocery, general merchandise, online order fulfilment, pharmacy and supply chain roles all sit under the same employer, and many stores run morning, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts. Both regular and part-time positions appear on the careers site.

Walmart Canada is also investing in its network. In October 2025 it opened a 550,000-square-foot Ambient Distribution Centre in Vaughan, Ontario, which employs more than 200 associates and serves 131 stores and two fulfilment centres across Ontario.

Flexibility is a common requirement. Postings ask associates to be open to evenings, weekends and holidays, and some roles are overnight. Pharmacy and optical jobs require the relevant provincial licence.

The Walmart Canada hiring process

Walmart Canada describes its hiring process on the Candidate Resources page. These are the stages it lists, from application to your first days on the job.

Stage What happens
Application You apply online through the careers site
Prescreen Qualified candidates are contacted by phone or video call
Interview Candidates who pass the prescreen are invited to a formal interview
Offer The selected candidate signs and accepts the offer in Workday before it expires

Walmart notes that only candidates who meet the requirements are shortlisted for an interview. That is why it pays to read each posting before applying.

Walmart pay in Canada: published rates

Walmart Canada shows a minimum rate of pay on the hourly postings checked for this guide. On postings dated October 18, 2026, the minimum rates were $18.10 per hour for a dairy/frozen associate in Kitchener, Ontario, $17.15 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, $16.65 for a part-time self-checkout attendant in Sherwood Park, Alberta, and $18.75 for an online order processor in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec.

These are starting minimums for specific postings, not a promise for every store. The actual rate depends on the province, the store and the role, so always check the figure in the posting you apply to.

On its Candidate Resources page, Walmart Canada lists the benefits below. It notes that some items, such as the annual bonus and the profit-sharing program, depend on hours or employment status.

Walmart supply chain and distribution centre jobs

Walmart Canada describes its distribution and transportation teams as a 24-hour operation that moves products from suppliers and distribution centres to stores. Supply chain associates receive training and work with automated equipment, and leadership roles coach and support those teams.

The Vaughan Ambient Distribution Centre, which Walmart Canada opened in October 2025, uses AI-driven warehouse management, autonomous forklifts and automated storage and retrieval systems, and can ship up to 70 million cases a year. Supply chain postings are listed in their own section of the careers site, separate from store jobs.

Resume and interview tips

Walmart’s interview FAQ advises candidates to be truthful, give concrete examples and show enthusiasm for the role. It says to expect behavioural, situational, job-specific and general questions, and to tailor your resume and cover letter to each job.

Prepare a short story about helping a customer, working under pressure and fixing a mistake. Walmart lists its values as respect for the individual, integrity, serving customers and striving for excellence, so link your examples to them. Bring a list of the hours and days you can work.

Common mistakes when applying

  • Letting the Workday offer expire, since Walmart says it must be signed before the deadline.
  • Missing the prescreen call or video invitation, which Walmart’s FAQ suggests watching for by checking spam folders and answering unknown numbers.
  • Applying to overnight roles, such as overnight dairy/frozen or maintenance associate, without being available at night.
  • Ignoring the minimum rate and schedule shown in the posting.
  • Applying for a store leadership role without the management experience the posting asks for, instead of starting with an hourly position.
  • Not mentioning French or other languages, which can help in Quebec and in bilingual communities.

How to spot fake Walmart job offers

Real Walmart Canada openings are on careers.walmart.ca, and offers are signed in Workday. You never have to pay to apply, buy equipment or pay for training.

Be cautious with messages that offer a job without an interview, ask for gift cards or banking details, or use a personal email address. If you cannot find the posting on the official site, do not send documents.
