Lidl jobs in 2026: roles, pay from £13.45 and how to apply

October 18, 2026

Lidl jobs in 2026 are closely tied to the discounter’s store openings across Great Britain. In January 2026 Lidl said it would open 19 stores in eight weeks, creating up to 640 new roles, and in April it announced more than 50 new stores over the following 12 months.

Lidl GB says it has over 35,000 employees, over 1,000 stores and 13 distribution centres in England, Scotland and Wales. Most entry-level vacancies are for customer assistants and cleaners in stores, and for warehouse operatives and desk clerks in the regional distribution centres. Northern Ireland is run separately and has its own jobs website.

If you want to see which Lidl vacancies are open near you right now, the button below takes you to the company’s official careers site. Every application is made there, and it costs nothing.

Why Lidl jobs are worth a look in 2026

The main reason is growth. Lidl’s April 2026 announcement put the store expansion at £600 million and said it is expected to generate almost 2,000 new jobs across the country. A new warehouse in Leeds is under construction, with operations due to begin in 2027.

Pay has also gone up. In its results for the year to 28 February 2026, published in October 2026, Lidl said it had opened over 40 new stores and invested an additional £59 million in colleague pay.

The most common roles in Lidl stores and warehouses

The careers site groups roles by stores, warehouses and head office. These are the entry-level positions that appear most often in the job search.

Role Where What the job involves
Customer Assistant Stores Working on the tills, setting up the bakery, helping customers and keeping the store clean and well organised
Cleaner Stores Keeping the sales floor, staff areas and back of house clean
Warehouse Operative Distribution centres Picking and loading stock for stores, including chilled and frozen areas, on day or night shifts
Warehouse Desk Clerk Distribution centres Administrative support in the warehouse office
Seasonal Support roles Stores and warehouses Fixed-term contracts at busy times of year, for example 12-week customer assistant contracts

Requirements for entry-level roles

Lidl asks every applicant to create a candidate profile with an up-to-date CV, and it checks during the application that you are eligible to work in the UK. Job adverts for customer assistants and warehouse operatives list experience of working in a fast-paced environment under “What you’ll need”, so it helps to show that on your CV.

Anúncios

Lidl does not publish a single minimum age for GB roles, so read the advert for the job you want. Offers depend on satisfactory references and, where requested, a DBS check.

How to apply for Lidl jobs step by step

The process is the same for store and warehouse roles and is handled entirely online. Have an up-to-date CV ready before you start, because you need it to create your profile.

  1. Open the job search on careers.lidl.co.uk and enter a town or postcode to see vacancies nearby.
  2. Read the advert carefully: contract type, weekly hours, shift pattern and the hourly rate are all listed.
  3. Create your candidate profile and upload your CV. Lidl says it cannot accept CVs by email.
  4. Answer the mandatory questions, including the right to work check. The equal opportunities survey is optional.
  5. Complete the online test if the role asks for one.
  6. Watch your email and phone. Lidl says it reviews applications within 7 to 14 days.

The Lidl selection process

Lidl states that all GB roles follow a two-stage interview process. For warehouses, the face-to-face stage is competency based and includes a tour of the site.

Stage What happens
Telephone interview A short call; for warehouse roles it includes checks on your right to work and the shifts you can do
Face-to-face interview Scripted questions asked by two interviewers; warehouse candidates also see the site
Offer and contract If successful, you receive an offer and then your contract by email
Welcome call A call around one week before your start date
Training New warehouse colleagues follow a 28-day programme with a mentor

If you pass the interview but there is no role available, Lidl may invite you to join its Candidate Community pool. If you are unsuccessful, the company asks you to wait six months before applying for the same role again.

Lidl pay in 2026: the official hourly rates

On 6 February 2026 Lidl GB announced new rates for hourly paid colleagues, effective from 1 March 2026. Pay rises with length of service, and London weighting applies to colleagues whose principal place of work is within the M25.

Area Entry-level rate from 1 March 2026 With length of service
National £13.45 per hour £14.45 per hour
London £14.80 per hour £15.30 per hour

The benefits page also lists premiums of £3.50 an hour for night work, £2.00 an hour on bank holidays and £1.50 an hour for work in freezers. The rate for a specific vacancy is always shown in its advert.

Benefits Lidl lists for colleagues

Lidl’s careers site lists 30 to 35 days’ holiday (pro rata), a 10% in-store discount from the first day and a contributory pension scheme. There is also a healthcare cash plan, an online GP service, a free flu jab and a 24-hour employee assistance programme.

For families, maternity and adoption pay is 28 weeks at full pay, and paternity leave was doubled in 2026 to four weeks at full pay, or eight weeks after five years’ service. Warehouses offer subsidised canteens and free parking.

Where Lidl is hiring: stores and distribution centres

Store vacancies are spread across England, Scotland and Wales, with extra recruitment wherever a new store is due to open. Warehouse jobs are concentrated in 13 regional distribution centres: Eurocentral near Motherwell, Newton Aycliffe, Runcorn, Doncaster, Wednesbury, Peterborough, Luton, Bridgend, Severn Beach, Belvedere, Northfleet, Exeter and Southampton.

In mid-October 2026 the job search included seasonal support roles, such as a 12-week customer assistant contract in Andover and a night-shift warehouse operative post in Runcorn. Vacancies change daily, so check the live list before planning around a particular site.

CV and interview tips

Keep your CV to one or two pages and put your availability near the top, because shift patterns matter in both stores and warehouses. Mention any work in shops, kitchens, hospitality or warehouses, and say how you handled busy periods or early starts.

The face-to-face interview uses set questions, so prepare short examples of times you helped a customer, worked in a team or dealt with a problem. Answer with what the situation was, what you did and what happened as a result.

Common mistakes when applying

The most frequent mistakes are emailing a CV instead of using the online profile, applying on the Northern Ireland site for a store in Great Britain, and ignoring the shift pattern in the advert. Reapplying for the same role before six months have passed is another one, as is missing the telephone interview call.

How to spot fake Lidl job offers

Genuine Lidl GB vacancies are listed on careers.lidl.co.uk, and applications are made through that site. Be wary of anyone who contacts you on WhatsApp or social media offering a Lidl job, asks for money for training or uniforms, or wants bank details before an interview.

If an offer arrives without any application or interview, treat it as suspicious and check the vacancy on the official job search. Applying for a job at Lidl never requires a payment.
