Mitie jobs in 2026 cover the people who clean, secure and maintain buildings and transport networks across the UK. Across the UK, Ireland and Spain the group employs around 84,000 colleagues, including more than 25,000 cleaning technicians, and works for more than 3,000 customers. Its frontline roles are mostly cleaning technicians and operatives, security officers, engineering and maintenance staff, and landscaping and waste teams, based at client sites such as offices, shopping centres, hospitals, airports and stations.

Why Mitie jobs are worth considering in 2026

New contracts bring new roles. In January 2026 Transport for London awarded Mitie a five-year cleaning contract covering trains, Tube and bus stations from 1 April 2026, with more than 2,000 colleagues and over 100 apprenticeships planned during the contract. In May 2026 a contract extension at Birmingham Airport added 60 new security officer roles.

In October 2026 Mitie began an integrated security contract for Airbus at seven UK sites, with around 300 colleagues and three entry-level Academy Officer roles. In July 2026 Mitie’s board also recommended a cash offer from OCS, another facilities company, which is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2027; OCS has said it does not intend to make any material change to the number of front-line operational employees.

The most common roles at Mitie

Mitie organises its work into service lines, and frontline vacancies follow the same split. The table shows the main frontline roles and where they are usually based.

Role Service line Typical places of work
Cleaning Technician or Operative Cleaning and hygiene Offices, trains and stations, hospitals and shopping centres
Security Officer Security guarding Supermarkets, airports, offices and industrial sites
Engineering or Maintenance Technician Engineering maintenance Client buildings, including data centres and offices
Landscaping Operative Landscapes Grounds of business parks and public spaces
Apprentice Several areas Professional, technical and management programmes

Requirements for Mitie roles

Security officer roles need a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). To hold one you must be 18 or over and complete a licence-linked qualification, and colleagues who transferred to Mitie on the Asda security contract received SIA training.

Cleaning and facilities roles list their requirements in each advert, including hours, site and any checks the client needs. Every applicant must have the right to work in the UK.

How to apply for Mitie jobs step by step

Mitie’s corporate jobs page is the official starting point for its UK vacancies. From there, a link takes you to the vacancy search.

  1. Open the jobs page on mitie.com and select “Check out Mitie vacancies here” to reach the vacancy search.
  2. Search the vacancies by location and type of work.
  3. Read the advert for the client site, contract type, shift pattern and pay.
  4. Apply online with your details and work history.
  5. Have your right to work documents, and your SIA licence for security roles, ready to show.
  6. For apprenticeships, search the apprenticeship vacancies on the Mitie site and join a talent pool if nothing suits you yet.

What happens when Mitie takes over a contract

When Mitie wins a contract that another company ran before, the staff already working on that site often move across to Mitie. In January 2026, for example, more than 2,000 colleagues transferred to Mitie when it took over security for over 1,100 Asda stores, and they received SIA and CCTV training.

New roles are also created when an existing contract grows, as with the 60 security officer positions added at Birmingham Airport in 2026, and on new contracts such as the three Academy Officer roles at Airbus. Contract news on Mitie’s website is a useful guide to where teams are growing.

Mitie pay in 2026

Mitie is a Recognised Service Provider with the Living Wage Foundation, and its 2026 annual report says it met its commitment that all colleagues whose pay is set directly by Mitie receive at least the Real Living Wage. On the TfL cleaning contract, all colleagues receive at least the London Living Wage.

Real Living Wage (Living Wage Foundation) UK London
2025/26 rates £13.45 per hour £14.80 per hour
2026/27 rates, announced 15 October 2026, due by 1 May 2027 £14.10 per hour £15.45 per hour

Where a client sets the pay for a contract, rates can differ, so the advert is the place to check the hourly rate for a specific job. The Real Living Wage commitment applies to pay that Mitie sets directly.

Benefits for Mitie colleagues

Through the MySlice benefits platform, colleagues can access life assurance, health insurance, virtual GP services, mortgage advice and lifestyle discounts. Frontline colleagues have received free shares in each of the past five financial years, and there is a Save As You Earn share scheme and the MiDeals discounts portal.

On the TfL contract Mitie lists enhanced sick pay, free life assurance, a multi-language 24/7 online GP service and an employee assistance programme that extends to immediate family. The Mitie Stars scheme recognises good work, with more than 31,000 awards issued in 2025/26.

Apprenticeships at Mitie

Mitie offers professional, technical and management apprenticeships. Examples include facilities services, customer service, business administration, electrical installation, plumbing and heating, property maintenance and team leading, and the company describes itself as a Top 100 Apprenticeships Employer.

Where Mitie is hiring

Many roles are in London, where Mitie has its head office at The Shard and runs cleaning across the TfL network. Airports such as Birmingham and Manchester, Asda stores nationwide and the seven Airbus sites are other places where Mitie teams work.

Mitie also runs security operations centres in Northampton and Craigavon in Northern Ireland, and its registered office is in Rutherglen near Glasgow. Vacancies at client sites are listed by town, so search for your own area.

CV and interview tips

Keep your CV short and list the shifts you can work, since cleaning and security work often involves early, late or overnight shifts. Mention any cleaning, hospitality, retail or security experience and any certificates, such as an SIA licence or first aid.

In the interview, give examples of working reliably on your own, following procedures and dealing calmly with members of the public. For security roles, be ready to talk about handling difficult situations safely.

Common mistakes when applying

Common problems are applying for security work without a valid SIA licence, missing the site location in the advert and assuming every contract pays the same rate. Applicants also miss apprenticeship openings by looking at the wrong time, so set up alerts or join a talent pool.

How to spot fake Mitie job offers

Mitie vacancies are advertised through its official jobs page and vacancy search. Be wary of anyone who offers a Mitie job by WhatsApp or social media without an application, or who asks for money for training, uniform, a licence or background checks.

A genuine employer will not ask you to pay to be hired. If something seems wrong, check the vacancy on Mitie’s own site before sharing personal or bank details.
