Why Costco jobs in Canada draw applicants
Costco describes its retention rate as high for the retail industry. Its fiscal 2026 10-K puts retention at about 94% for employees in the U.S. and Canada who had been with the company for at least one year, and mentions a target of at least 50% of its employee base being full-time.
The Canadian business is also growing: headcount in Canada rose from 55,000 to 58,000 during fiscal 2026, and the Canadian segment added five net new warehouses.

Requirements in Costco Canada job postings
Several entry-level postings set a low bar for experience. The Cashier Assistant, Stocker, Member Service Assistant, Food Service Assistant and Service Deli Clerk postings checked on October 22, 2026 all listed “Experience: None” and a high school diploma or GED as preferred rather than required.
Some roles add specific conditions. Food court, deli and meat roles require Food Safety Certification Level 1 from the first day in the position. Member Service Assistants need a valid driver’s licence and a vehicle, because the job includes perimeter security checks by car. For Quebec locations, every posting states that candidates must be able to communicate in French, orally and in writing.

What happens after you apply
Costco Canada’s careers site explains that its postings are used to build a pool of candidates for hiring needs Costco may have in the next 90 days. It makes sense to check your profile again after that period.
Costco’s Canadian customer service FAQ says application updates are not sent by email or messaging apps. It advises contacting the warehouse where you applied directly, using the location and phone number listings on costco.ca.
Typical shifts and days off are discussed at the interview, according to the gas station attendant posting. Some certifications come after hiring: depot forklift operators, for example, must obtain Costco’s Power Equipment Operator certification within 30 days.
Costco pay in Canada: what is published
Costco does not publish an average hourly rate for Canada. The average of about $33.00 in its fiscal 2026 10-K applies only to hourly employees in the United States, and the Canadian postings checked on October 22, 2026 did not display a pay rate.
The 10-K does state that in March 2026 Costco raised the top of its wage scales by $1.00 per hour in both the U.S. and Canada. On costco.ca, the description of the College Student Retention Program explains that wage increases are tied to accumulated hours worked.
One figure did appear on costco.ca on October 22, 2026: the jobs page advertised a premium of $4 per hour for Business Centre truck drivers, who need a Class 3, Class D or equivalent provincial commercial licence with an air brake endorsement. For any other role, ask about the rate at the interview stage.
Benefits Costco Canada lists
Costco’s Canadian career page says benefits apply once employees meet qualifying requirements, that coverage can extend to a spouse and children, and that Costco pays 100% of the premiums. It lists:
- Health care through three flexible benefits programs, including prescription drugs, vision, paramedical services and hearing aids
- Dental care, including orthodontics
- An annual company contribution to the employee pension plan, plus a 50% match on optional contributions up to a limit based on years of service
- An Employee and Family Assistance Program available from the first day of employment
- Short- and long-term disability insurance at no cost to the employee
- Life, accidental death and dismemberment and critical illness insurance
- An Employee Share Purchase Plan open to new employees immediately
For students, the College Student Retention Program lets eligible employees work during school breaks and take time off during the school year while keeping their original hire date. Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. also offers scholarships of up to $2,500 per year to employees and their children, awarded on academic performance.
Depot, Business Centre and other jobs beyond the warehouse
Depots receive large supplier shipments and send the goods on to warehouses. On October 22, 2026, the careers site listed depots in Airdrie, Alberta; Langley, British Columbia; Vaughan, Ontario; and Varennes, Quebec. Depot truck drivers need a Class 1 licence and four years of tractor-trailer experience.
Business Centres carry products for food services, convenience stores and offices, and hire order pickers, delivery drivers and marketing road representatives. Other sites include a bakery commissary in Vaughan, an optical lab in Boisbriand, Quebec, and an inbound contact centre in Ottawa, where English is required and bilingualism is preferred.
Where Costco Canada is accepting applications
Ontario had the most location entries accepting applications for Any Position on October 22, 2026, followed by Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. The province menu listed nine provinces; Prince Edward Island and the territories did not appear.

Resume and interview tips for Costco applicants
Costco postings repeat one phrase across many roles: prompt and courteous member service. Prepare examples of helping customers, keeping an area clean and safe, and working in a team.
State your availability clearly, because shifts are set at the interview. Mention certifications you already hold, such as food safety or forklift training, and give your level of French if you apply in Quebec or in Ottawa.
Common mistakes when applying to Costco in Canada
- Waiting for an email update, when Costco’s FAQ says updates are not sent by email or messaging apps.
- Applying for a Member Service Assistant role without a driver’s licence and a vehicle.
- Choosing a food role without planning to obtain Food Safety Certification Level 1 before the first day.
- Forgetting that applications feed a 90-day candidate pool and never checking back.
How to spot fake Costco job offers
Costco Canada’s Preventing Fraud page describes fake emails with subjects such as “Provisional Job Offer” that appear to come from executives or human resources. Some ask for a processing fee of several hundred dollars or offer to reimburse application or relocation costs.
Costco states that it does not offer jobs by email to people it has had no prior contact with, does not charge candidates a fee, and does not authorize recruiters or agents to do so on its behalf. Never share your Social Insurance Number or banking details in reply to an unsolicited message, and apply only through the official careers site.
